So my truck has a new 5.0 , and I knew this was coming , it now needs a trans , it slips , slams into gear , won't shift right , it really makes the truck unpleasant to drive , it's an aod , what would you guys do ? Find a good used one ? Or get mine rebuilt ? I don't know if my engine would stress it too much , it's built with a comp 31-255-5, ported and polished e7 heads and intake , 1.7 rockers and longtube headers with true dual exhaust , Idk how much more hp I'm making over stock but I don't want my engine to break another transmission ,
Any advise would be great !
If the engine is upgraded, the more longevity based option is a rebuild with GOOD quality parts. Maybe even look for a place that sells built AOD's for performance applications.
What do you think would be a decent price to pay for a used one ..? I'm assuming a new rebuilt one would be close to a grand .. So a yard might be me only option for now
I just got a new trans for my truck.. A C6. I came across a few AOD's as well. They run about 200.00 used from a boneyard. I would have used it because it has the OD in it.. But from what ive read... You dont gain much with it. After all the stuff id have to change, I found it wasnt worth it.
Is an aod rebuild something I could do in. Weekend ? I'd say I'm good with mechanics , I know the rebuild kits don't usually cost over 300 , so that looks like a good option if it's something I could do
