This is very good and useful information. The last thing you want to do is get a wire that cant hold up to the job. I'm about to re wire the ignition switch and the head light switch to the new style contura v rocker switches, and going to add a bunch of lights in my 99 7.3L. I plan on using relays and fuses for the lights in the engine compartment. I have a question and probably more to come. I plan on running four rock lights under the truck, two behind the front wheel and two in front of the back wheel. Do I tie in all four lights to one wire or do I take all four wires to the relay? This may be just the start to a couple of Q's. Thanks

It doesn't matter, as long as the wire is big enough. Either 1 large wire or 4 smaller wires. The size wire will depend on the wattage of the lights.
I would use 12 gauge. Why? Because I know it's larger than it needs to be, so it should do the job. 6 volt wiring needs larger wires anyway, since voltage drop is so critical, and the amperage in the vehicle is higher because of the lower voltage.
