Thinking going HID
I have had this lights in for about 4 or so months now. Here are my observations.
They light up the road in just about any condition I have been in. I know this may be considered old hat to some. When I installed them over the summer it was warm and dry. Being able to use them in the fall and winter months was nice. I felt I had better lighting on the road (and off) especially during the last couple of trips with the trailer.
Not as distracting as I thought. I have driven behind friends who have said. "Yes the lights are brighter but they are nothing different what's out there on the road." That's good!
The only thing I can really complain about is the FM interference when either set of lights(Heads or Fogs) are on. At first, I thought it could have been a grounding issue as I had to extend them to reach a good grounding point. I used 14 gauge for this. These grounding points are attached at Ford ground points that are also wire strapped. Next, from what I read it could be a bad ballast. Nope still got diminished FM reception when the lights are on. The only other thing I could think is there is a need for a noise filter in the ballast. My theory is there is some feedback that is emitting/ generating/passing from the ballast. Am I understanding this correctly?
I know there a bunch of people who have installed these HID and LED kits for their truck. I noticed many of you have much more than the standard radio in the truck as in Ham or CB type set ups. Is there anything you guys did differently or experienced to reduce/ eliminate the EMI generated by the lights?
Thanks for the suggestions!
