these trucks were built when parallel parking was common. The reason there is no lock on the driver's door is because they wanted you to exit on the passenger side so you wouldn't be stepping into traffic.
Not sure if this is true, but I have been told this several times...
Sorry I don't get it. why lock a door if you can walk around the truck
and open the drivers door?
ken
Fortyniner just said it. The driver had to lock the driver's side door from inside the truck using the handle, then slide across and exit the passenger door, then lock that door from the outside with the key.
But if you paid more for your truck and bought a Deluxe Cab (53,54) or a Custom Cab (55, 56) you then got a lock on the driver's side... so I guess Ford didn't care about the lives of the wealthy farmers and construction workers????
I think the whole reason was to save a few bucks on the cheaper models... not door locking safety.
