98 Ford XLT xtra cab 4.0 automatic bought used w/48,000 and now has around 78,000. Truck runs great except for recent starting issue. This happens about every three weeks it seems...weather can be warm & dry or wet & damp. Go out to start it and the starter engages fine, and the engine turns over fine...turns over strong.
I originally thought it was a fuel issue...but do not think so now because I can smell fuel, and when it finally decides to start...strong fuel smell in exhaust, so I am thinking "fire - spark" issue.
I read a thread "Quirky Starts" and a reply said Rangers are very fussy about having Motorcraft plugs & wires, so maybe this is a problem?
Anybody out there ever have to deal with this problem? Thanks. Mike.
