No easy fix, just knew I'd change out my codes and all would be fine. Not to be so easily fixed. Changed codes (double checked the code entry, wife double checked me) made no difference still 50* degree spread. Just don't know.

Have you swapped the sensors yet?
If not then that would be my next step.
You can also test then out of the truck
with a DMM and a controlled heat source.
But in trying that you need to know
the resistance curve.

<p>Hey Sean, No I haven't swapped them out as I figure since I've got to go in there I'm just going to replace it with a new one. Got to get to another payday unfortunately. Thanks for the thought tho. While we are here in the discussion where are the two sensors and are they reasonably easy to change?</p>

For some reason the link is not working right now.
http://dan.prxy.org/Truck/6L_bible_html/html/TOC.html
The EOT is on the top behind the oil filter and I think on
the 03 the ECT is somewhere near the thermostat.

Someone will tell you the right location.

Both are easy to change. When you put the new one in
don't over torque it. (Very bad JUJU).

Thanks, When I change it out I will up date the readings of the new one. Wish I didn't have to put it off.

The up side of this is the EOT is reading 50* LOWER than the ECT.....so you can keep on trucking until you can replace the sensors, unless you are sensing some problems via another method Like smell or sight. if things don't smell hot, appear to be hot or FEEL hotter than normal I wouldn't be overly concerned about running it. Maybe run by your local filling station/ repair shop and have the mechanic shoot the sensors with a infrared gun would set your mind at ease and might even show you where the problem/s is/are.

Unfortunately you'll have to drain a couple of gallons coolant to change the ECT. It's just under the thermostat housing/top radiator hose. You can see where the harness plugs into the sensor. The EOT sensor is top center of the motor just to the passenger side of the oil filter housing and looks exactly like the ECT sensor--same connector. IIRC it takes a 21mm deep socket.

I don't understand why this obvious step hasn't been taken long before now. $30 IR thermometer from Harbor Freight, take the temp of the thermostat housing and the oil filter base, and done.

Good idea about the IR thermometer. Was at Harbor Freight yesterday and the thought didn't even sink into the upstairs grey matter to get one. Now to add a new dynamic to the equation, was changing the four gauge view screen brought up 2 EOT views and now it's reading 124* on one 185* on the other so I'm figuring operator error at this point. My EOT is assigned to #6 X gauge position double checked entry and it is correct so how did I manage to two different reading same sensor? Side note EWT ran warmer 182* yippee up 1 whole degree. ScanGaugeII is in CANSF mode if that factors in anywhere in all of this.

On my SGII most sensors won't double display. Usually one or both are blank. U sure you don't have two different Xgauges with different EOT's?

<p>Good evening npccpartsman, I entered the scan parameters from the ones here on the forums. My ScanGaugeII will show the same gauge on two different positions on the display face. I programmed the EBP, BRO, FSS and they don't show any data. I checked the pre loaded gauges and they will not display the same gauge at two different positions but the X gauges will. Not sure what's up with it. The news is the EOT is higher than the EWT but they are both in the 180s* range. Guess it's time for the IR temp gun and go that route.</p>

Sounds like you're making positive progress then. If you could find someone close to you that had Auto Enginuity then you could get them to hook it up and monitor the whole ball of wax.

An 03 won't read EBP but it should read BARO and FSS. You might want to check your inputs with these:

Baro 07E0221127 046285110627 3008 003100500000 BAR Inches of Mercury

FSS 07E022099F 04620509069F 3010 000100040000 FAN SPEED SENSOR

Sometimes you have say oh well... Yeap I did...and y'all are are saying did what? Programmed in the EOT temp twice with one of the set of parameters programmed wrong. That covers the low EOT of 124* and being able to display two widely different EOT readings. Thank you npccpartsman, got those two sensors listed and monitoring. Thanks to all who have followed and those who made valuable suggestions. So the results: EOT now registers higher than the EWT but both are still in the mid 180* range, and when the ScanGaugeII acts up check your entries.
