Transfer case question

So it seems my '95 F350 that my brother just got running a few weeks ago froze up the transfer case while driving and snapped the rear driveshaft.
So my question is, (since I'm 9,000 miles away) whats the odds that the transfer case can be rebuilt? And if not, what years would work to replace it?
Also, would a transfer case from a auto be the same? I'm guessing not, the truck is a manual.
Thanks for any imput!

The '95s use a 1356 t-case. One from an auto will work, but if it is from an F250, you will have to take the front yoke off the F350 t-case and put it on the F250 case because the front drive shafts joints are different. It's just a 1 1/4" nut in the center of the yoke, zip it out with an impact and slide the yoke off.

Also - if his driveshaft is toast, too, you can pick up a rear driveshaft/t-case combo from any truck of the same wheelbase and transmission - I.e any zf5 truck (which I believe ran from 87 to 97). Diesel/gas, big block/small block, f250/f350/F-superduty doesn't matter.

96/97 trucks will have a newer "hd" t-case, but as long as you take the driveshaft, too, it'll work just fine.

So there should be a lot of trucks out there for you.

Bill's right about the front shaft tcase yoke though.

Just how HD is the 96/97 case? Should I try and find one or just take whatever year I find first?

If swapping to a 4407 you'll need to get the t-case shifter linkage bar. The 1356 and 4407 are different lengths.

I think the 4407 is heavier duty, but I've seen the 1356 take a lot of abuse too. The 4407 weighs twice as much as a 1356, so there must be something HD in there! LOL! I would stick with what's in the truck, that way you're not trying to find driveshafts and stuff.

Muncie Indiana. That makes both of my strokers down from a transfer case, but the dually was just slipping so I planned on rebuilding it when I get home in 3 months. This one, I don't know if I'll be able..

If he doesn't find one before the weekend of Oct. 4th, let me know and I can maybe send one that way with a friend if you're interested and he doesn't mind.
