I am looking at the B&M 70268 Super Cooler. I pull our Travel Trailer, which clocks in on the CAT Scales at 10,200. What say you guys and what are you using? I can't afford the 6.0 cooler at the moment and definitely need to replace the crappy stock power steering size cooler. So, good, bad, or indifferent, lemme hear what you have and what you think. I am ordering sometime today. Thanks!
Thanks guys. Unfortunately, that one was a little out of my price range, so hopefully the B&M I ordered will do ok. It is rated at 14,000 lbs towing and 29,900 BTU or something like that. Anything is better than that original crappy thing.
^^That's what I run.^^ Mines behind my intercooler and in the 95* heat with 50mph head/side winds yesterday pulling 16k it never got over 205.
How does yours do in traffic when towing? I have the 4739 and a triple disk converter. When its unlocked towing in traffic I sometimes get 225* out of it. Never over 230* though. To be honest, it climbs a bit (190*-195*) when I am unloaded doing 70 mph too.
Sometimes I think the hard lines on these trucks are too small.

That's the hottest I've ever seen it. I have a triple disc racer x converter too. Are you using the radiator as part of the trans cooling yet? You should be. Have you checked for any restrictions in it if you are? I don't think the stock hard lines are a problem, at least in my experiences.

Yes, radiator is in the loop and is brand new. No restrictions, can drain the pan under the pumps power in under a minute. This isn't the hottest it's gotten either. I was towing in steep grades, slow turns and it climbed to 295 once. I had no choice. I flushed it and added the tru-cool. I really believe the cooler line adapter in the transmission is too small and the hard line diameter is also too small.
I don't know what cooler is in mine but its a monster! Its like 12inchesx13inches and an inch wide. That trans never breaks a sweat. I have never seen above 180, and I looked my radiator cooler is bypassed.
I'm curious to see where my sending unit is. Whoever put the gauges in looks like they did them all right, pyro is where it should be, boost is in the map tube, and trans is in the side I believe. And they are autometer gauges so they should be good an accurate.
There has been a few that went to 3/8" line from 5/16" lines but the fitting in the trans have to be changed out.
Glenn, did JW made any comment about change the lines? good or bad?.

I asked John Woods about 3/8" lines and all he would say is the fitting on the trans will not accept them. In other words, he acted like it wasn't necessary.
I don't recommend bypassing the radiator. It is a very effective cooler. If you want to cool the transmission, why remove an excellent cooler?

We can debate all day long if it is necessary or not. Ford changed to 3/8" lines with the 4R100 and then 1/2" lines with the TorqShift. Both changes were made to improve the flow rate, which improves cooling.
Always great information Mark! Thanks. I'll see about getting that back in the loop. I agree with you, not sure why it was bypassed. It was done before I bought the truck so no clue how long its been that way.
