Hi just had a brake controller installed and now my 4x4 dash light is on for no reason. The guy at trailer source said the light was already on before they did the install but he is lying. Any ideas, or has anyone had the light problem and fixed it? thanks
I checked the Ford shop manuals that I have and it says ABS System, GEM, or instrument cluster. It says to check first and make sure it is not engaged. Seems dumb to say but that's what it says. Then it says unplug ABS and see if light goes out. If yes let me know. Then do the others in order and see when light goes out. I have not had this problem but these are Genuine Ford shop manual writings.
thanks for the info, the light went off all by itself not sure what the deal was, my truck has a manual transfer shift lever and I am thinking the contact switch locked in the open position? I will keep an eye on it and use your suggestions if it rears it't head again.
I have a 2002 F-150 with the manual shift lever for the transfer case. Recently I noticed that the 4X4 light does not go out all the time when I return it to the two wheel drive position. It seems that turning the truck off and restarting will turn the light off, but not always. Maybe with more exercise this coming winter it'll "correct" itself.
