What is this please!!

Hi guys, please tell me what this is. The hose fitting broke on it and I'm trying to jerry rig it. Also, the hose goes into the throttle body, what sensor is it hooked to?

Having trouble getting images to show. It's a rectangular box near the battery tray with two round caps on it.

Thats the charcoal canister.
Not sure what sensor you are talking about.

Thanks. Is it vital? I no longer have a cat? The sensor Im talking about Im not sure if its a sensor or relay or what. It is on the hose that comes from the charcoal canister to the throttle body.

It filters the fumes from the gas tank. The charcoal absorbs and stores gas.At certain times a valve opens to engine vacuum to burn the gas instead of letting it in the atmosphere. I'm not sure if the computer controls this or not. It is not vital but if you can keep the system working, there is no reason not to. You may smell gas fumes if it is not operating.
