So it's an 89 F250 with a 351w and a E40D tranny (evidently). I just got it, rescued it from a farm. It hasn't been inspected in 6 years and the former owner evidently knew nothing about mechanics, electronics, electricity, lubrication, and RADIO'S!
I have an old love for Ford's and this is the first one that I have actually owned, but some of my best memories are in an 84 F150.
I'll be sure and include the details in the future. Even though I've been on the Internet since 92, I haven't been a member of a forum since the WWW took over.

You can click on "user cp", then "edit signature" then put the truck details in your sig so it shows up on all your posts.
Alas, I am a newb and am not allowed to have a signature until I prove my worth. Hopefully I will be found worthy and have the honor of a signature bestowed upon me.

So what does the TV cable do? Where is the connection and should it be something I need to fix?
A TV (Throttle Valve) cable runs from the throttle to some linkage (and eventually, by this linkage, to a valve inside the transmission) and provides for the "kickdown" feature on auto transmissions. That's when you punch the throttle while cruising, and the trans will kick down into a lower gear for better acceleration. Just like downshifting a manual... except you don't have to think about it... or do much of anything really... and it's BORING!
On some auto transmissions like the Ford AOD, the kickdown cable also adjusts the hydraulic pressure inside the transmission, known as line pressure, which is used to apply clutches (among other things). Not adjusting the kickdown cable correctly on an AOD usually = death for transmission.
But don't fret! As was mentioned... the line pressure, kickdown feature, and almost everything else on your E4OD (Electronic 4Speed OverDrive) transmission is electronically monitored and controlled by the EEC and sensors, with solenoids inside the transmission to make the actual adjustments. Nothing to worry about unless you want to reprogram it with a chip or something.
Thanks for the info. Like I said, I'm not that familiar with the E40D and it just bothered me that there was an obviously empty bracket right at the throttle with nothing around it.
