Found a bracket today right behind the throttle controls that sits on top of the intake manifold. The shape indicates that it is specialized for a specific component, but no component and no obvious wiring harness. Haynes and Autozone don't show the bracket. That's not exactly true, the Haynes manual shows the occupied bracket in pictures for other components, but never identifies what exactly the component is, what it does, and where it's suppose to connect. Any ideas?

First of all, I'm from Texas, so what is this "snow" cover you're speaking about?
Sorry I haven't been able to post a picture. Technical difficulties, mainly my inability to walk, have prevented me from getting out there with the good camera.
The bracket I'm looking at is part of the bracket that holds the throttle cables. It bends up at the back after the cable linkages and is square with what appear to be openings for clips at the top and side.
Thanks so much for help a newb!

All it is , is a cover to cover the linkage on top of the throttle body. All of the truck had it, no matter where they went
OK, my truck was saved from being a farm truck so there are A LOT of parts missing, broken, cut off, you get the picture. Just to double check though, I hobbled out and got the picture. What you're saying makes sense, but just in case.....
All great guesses guys.
The cruise control is beside the throttle cable, parallel to it and attaches piggyback style to the throttle pivot.
That square hole is for the tv cable of the aod transmission and possibly the c6 kickdown. I've never had a c6 with an efi engine so I'm unsure of that last part.
If you look a little to the right of the throttle pivot point, you'll see a little round head sticking up where the cable clipped on to.

I'm pretty sure it's not a C6. I've rebuilt several of those and the pan on this one does not look like a C6. I'll run down the type of tranny and see if it's needed. I haven't driven it enough to know if the kickdown is working properly.
The older 302 trucks had the aod which used the bracket and the newer hd trucks had the c6. Your truck has an all electronic transmission so you won't have a kickdown cable.
Did you ever tell us what you had for a truck. Year engine and trim. We know you have a 302 or 351 just from the intake and bracket, but other than that we are guessing.
If the truck in question is the 1989 F250 in your profile then you have a C6 or an E4OD transmission. Ford never put an AOD behind the engines on F250/350 models. The hole in the bracket and extra pivot is not required for the E4OD transmission.
I knew it wasn't a C6. Like I said, I've rebuilt 3 different C6's so I was pretty sure it wasn't. I actually just took a quick look at it before I bought the truck. The C6 had a rod connected to the throttle for kickdown. Guess I get to learn something new, but this thing has a lot more to fix before I get to the tranny. I was just bothered by the fact that there was an obvious bracket with NOTHING anywhere near it that remotely looked like it belonged. I wasn't sure if it was a deleted item or a missing item. If it's the kickdown, then something is missing.......sigh, I'll get to it. Got to get a decent radio in first!
