With them being "chewed up" like I'm picturing and being what it does I would replace it. Where to get one I'm not sure.
As for it always being something. I have the same problem. I look at it this way... I could get a new truck and have a $600 a month payment or I can stick with my truck and spend $600 when something needs fixed because it doesn't cost me that much every time something breaks and it doesn't break like that every month. Good luck.
How many wires are damaged? How close to the plug? How many total in the harness? If only a couple you might be able to fix it. If a lot it will make for a tough job mainly because every repaired wire ends up about twice or three times the size of the originals.
More options these days for lower profile splices which make fo a cleaner job.
ok. It's not the PCM harness. It's the harness that goes the the firewall (there are 3 holes with rubber boot/grommets that are there) The damaged one is the upper most harness. In the engine compartment it splits into 4 bundles and connects to a clip on the frame. Inside it looks to go up into the dash.
I live in the proverbial "middle of nowhere" and this is great habitat for mice and rats (lots of grasses and seed bearing plants). I use to have chewed-up wires occasionally (they got the injector harness on my wifes TDI ). I solved it by putting out a commercial bait station and keeping it full at all times. Never let it go empty. I buy the bait in 9lb buckets on Amazon. At first, blocks would disappear overnight. Now I can go weeks/months before the blocks run low. In the last three years I have found no sign of mice or rats (though I am now dealing with two ground squirrels). For backup to the bait station, I keep blocks of poison wired tied under the hood and in compartments on our coach (baling wire through the hole on the bait block tied to something under the hood).
Well, after looking I decided it would be easier to cut, splice and re-solder all of the messed up wires. About 10 in all. So now that is done and everything is working I decided to address another issue........
Glad it was in an area you could get to. Good call on soldering.
I'm getting those traps Neal showed us. Little suckers chwed the wires on my riding mower in my shed this summer and I'm tired of baiting snap traps. bunch less mice around my shed though
