I have rebuilt my 352 in my 67 3/4 ton 4x4. I got new headman elite hedders and a smaller starter, the problem is I can't get the starter in. the hedders fit fine but no way can I get the starter in. I have raised the motor and unbolted the hedder. I'm sure the hedders are the right ones. Are there other mini starters to try? or do I need to go back to stock manifolds?
There is no easy way to do this task. If the headers are the correct ones for the above application.. the starter will go in with the header removed from the head and exhaust pipe unbolted from frame at first hangar. The starter goes in upside down easier, then turns in place to line up to the block. Then the header and hangar bolt back on.
If you ordered these from a catalog. This is where reading all those little foot note's is so important. Most will list if starter can be remove or not with headers on. The headers on my 390, the last exh port the pipe goes back and down to the collector pipe from the starter not along the side and front of it. This give me enough room to slide the starter farword and out.. I'm now going back to the stock exh manifolds soon after 24 yrs of geat service from them and 1 starter. Now i'm getting to old to screw with this kind of stuff like, I did yrs ago.. my 2 cents

Ok here it goes Black cat Jack or Black jack Cat, Cat back Jack. I ordered them through Sear's way back in 1978 when they had stuff like this. A 3/8 header plate 16 ga.tubes. These came with pipes for a complete bolt on system on my 4x4.... Last week end, I went to a car show & shine swap meet AND HO YES. There was a guy selling a pair of each type of Fe truck headers one set like mind aaah New for $75.00. Owell thats way it is sometimes.. I sure thought about getting one set but, I already have exh manifolds that I've had refaced. And have about $80.00 bucks in too now. Well I don't think this helped you very much.. Ps The 4x4 headers have alittle longer tubes that drop down more to clear the crossmember.. orich
I have a 68 f-100 2wd. I have dynomax headers on my 360. I had to remove the header, slide the starter in from the bottom with a helping hand from the top, and start at least one bolt. Then put header back on. Finally tighten the started bolts. Hope you have a long extension? It is a pain but whenit is in, it is worth it.
When one has to go through all that to just put a starter on you better not get a cheap *** rebuilt that's for sure. Plus some heat tube rap for a longer starter live my 2cents
