so the pickup has been acting a bit grumpy lately. for one thing, since iv owned it only a few months iv been researching how to adjust this and that. i have a edelbrock 1406 carb that needs some tweeking. i just downloaded the manual and will start reading that... but the clutch seems to be acting weird. it seems like i have to have the petal all the way to the floor now to get the tranny to shift. it was a couple inchs up a month ago but its getting harder to shift now. is their any adjustment to this. is it a hydrolic mechanism? also it seems like when i push in the clutch the rpms rise 500rpm or so. is this normal..???
Shoot. i just updated my profile.. my truck at question is a 79 f150 supercab. has 3/4ton everything with a 460. 6 inch skyjacker lift 35" tires. sorry i should have noted this before i submitted my question...

Reason: my bad
There should be a threaded rod as part of the linkage to take up slack.
Inspect the linkage and pedal and bell housing etc, from the pad on the pedal to where the clutch arm goes into the bell. Look for sloppy bushings, cracks in the linkage, and of course, general slop that can be taken up with the adjuster. Look at where things mount to the firewall or under the dash and inspect them for cracks etc.
IF all that is tight and right, then you are looking at a clutch job.

i appoligize. had to edit my thread with vehicle details... does this change your reply?
As oem, a '79 would still be a mechanical linkage. But since yours is mod'd, it may have a juice clutch. A quick check will tell the tale. Check the firewall where the master is located, along with all the lines, bushings, and the clutch arm going into the bell.
the clutch was way off!!!!! pedal to the floor was hardly engaging the clutch... i ran the adjustment arm out about a half inch and she seems to work good! however i noticed there used to be a rubber boot over the bell housing. should i find one????
