Well, my cats are starting to show signs of being on their way to plugging up. I live in a state without emissions testing, so it's time for them to go. I just want to run a single 2-1/4" pipe with a glasspack out the side behind the rear axle like stock. What's the best way to go about this? I'd prefer to get some sort of y-pipe off the O2 sensor h-pipe, but I would like to hear/see how others have done it. Thanks
My truck is at the Lake in Minnesota. Shops there will to touch it without putting a cat back in. Good news is they make high flow cats that are a drop in replacement for the front cat and then you only need one. Air pump does not need to be plumbed in either on the new cats.
So to answer your question a shop can get drop in cats to replace what is in there now, and eliminate the rear cat.
Doing yourself, there are "test pipes" that you can weld in to replace the cats.
If you have the equipment to weld up your own exhaust then eliminate. Otherwise let a shop install a high flow cat.
Most shops can do a back pressure test to tell you if they are plugged before doing anything.
