I took a 1200 mile road trip last week and my battery light would come on while cruising for maybe 4 or 5 minutes then go out. I thought it might be the alternator but my scan gauge still reads 13.4 to 13.5 volts so doesn't this mean my alternator is still working ok.

Yes still working but a Diode usually is Going Bad In the Alt for Random Bat Light that still has Strong Crank
Get a Battery Hydrometer and test bat cells its Very Accurite
You may need Both an Alt and Batterys they sometimes Kill each other
I just had an alternator installed on the road. It is only putting out 12.5 volts and the hot wire always seems hot. I mean really hot to touch. Is this alternator bad too? Also installed new batteries month ago.
