Glow plugs will pull 200+ amps not counting the starter. Some discussions on wether the alt. is connected before or after the gpr drops out. If your charging after app. 2 min. then you should be OK. You need a Scangauge ll at a min. to monitor what's going on.
The alternator will get hot quick just after you start your truck and the glow plugs cycle. It's putting out a lot of amps to recoup what the batteries used to heat the glow plugs to start.
The stock 110 G6 will in the first two minutes jump up
to 200F if you are pointing the laser dot at the windings
inside the alternator.
And I hate to brake a myth but the alternator starts charging
as soon as the engine is spinning. It just has a large deficit to
overcome so it looks like it not doing anything.
The reason I know this is because I put a clamp meter on the
alternator output wire and it starts showing output as soon as
the engine is running on it's own. I was going to post a video clip
of it beck some time ago but someone else posted just about the
same time/ So I just skipped it.
