check the alternator output. If you have a volt meter put ground lead on battery ground and the pos. lead to the heavy gauge wire on back of alt should be about 14.5 to 14.7 volts if it is less than that i would look for bad connections or replace the the alt.

Along with having the alternator tested, might as well have the batteries load tested also, check the battery posts and clean them, check your battery cables for corrosion.
So I get on the freeway today and punch it to shake off this dude tailgating me and the light goes off and voltage goes to normal. It almost didnt start this morning so I think something is loose since by launching the truck everything went normal!

sounds like cable cleaning is in order for saterday
Did the light stay off, and the voltage stay normal? If so, I would say a loose/bad connection someplace, otherwise it is probably the alternator. I heard a while back that there was a problem with the small connector on some of these alternators. I had a similar situation about a year ago, and it was the alternator. Higher RPM=more power generated. This is normally modulated by the regulator, but when the alternator goes flat, you are only getting decent power out of it at high RPM's. Back down at idle, the power drops back off, and the light comes back on.
One word of caution - even if you get your alternator tested at a "discount store", beware of the parts. Until I got a genuine Ford alternator, I put 3 discount alternators on in 2 weeks.

OK, I guess I should have ask, did it stay normal after you let off and how much driving have you done since then? Take it out tonight and drive with all the lights and fans on and see if it comes back on.
