Anyone have their drive shaft made longer? Im trying to figure out cost and what the max length can be... The drive shaft off my 59 f100 is like 5" diameter and has a sticker on it which made it seem like it was custom made awhile ago. My truck has a 390 fe motor and a np 435 4 speed which is a lot shorter then the c6 auto I took out of it. I think it needs to be made 8" or so longer to work.
The light duty three speed was probably close to the same length as the NP35 so you should be able to lengthen it. I had to do the opposite and cut one down when I installed the overdrive but I still have the original in the garage. Can you measure yours from center of yoke to center of yoke?

If you have a long bed, perhaps you will need a carrier barrier. There is a definate length limit, I think it may be aprox. 72". Not sure on that though. You can get away with a longer shaft if you don't exceed 5K rpms, so my shop told me. By the way, I have had several custom shafts made and they were just over a hundered bucks with new U-joints!
