Dirt/gravel roads will plugged a filter in just a couple months.
Sucking dust in and it hitting a wheel that's spinning 20k rpm's is like hit tile the wheel/pistons with a sand blaster

Hello Ford Pride

Mad was correct about the filter. It absolutely was not dirt that killed the turbo. My filter looked way better than the one where the guy put the light bulb inside the filter. The blades on my turbo wheel is broken off. Nice clean breaks, also there is white paper pulp on the passenger side intake going into the head.

I when to bed last night thinking on what may have happened. I live in Durham NC and we have had the wettest spring and summer I can ever remember and I am an Ol'man too.

I am thinking that the filter got very damp or even wet causing it to collapse. If you would walk up to the drivers side front wheel with the hood up and look where the air filter is sitting. The filter collapsed at the 3 o'clock position facing the fire wall and not on the bottom where you would think it would get wet. Also it was at the base of the filter closest to the intake tube.

My worries is what did the broken blades going into the engine do and I still have to get that dang valve cover off the head....all the bolts have been out and I have spent 2 hrs. trying to get it off. Maybe I will have better luck today. I DO NOT want to have to remove the heater box just to get that valve cover off

Oh I will try to get some pics of all this crap today for you guys

One more cup of coffee an it will be back on again....One ol'fart against a f250 powerstroke.........So far it is the PS 5 to 0

I believe you can remove that vacuum canister (what you refer to has the heater box). its should come right off with just a few screws and let you get the valve cover off quite easily. haven't done it myself, but saw it mentioned on here after having the same struggles with my passenger side valve cover last year...

and definitely post those pics. am I reading correct that you did have the 6637 filter on your truck and it is likely the culprit for your destroyed turbo (and maybe, but hopefully not engine)?

I vaguely remember reading a post a while back where someone was talking about the different manufacturers of the 6637-style filters with some of them being waterproof and others not.

the riff-raff one comes from Baldwin if i'm not mistaken and I though they were supposed to be waterproof. supposedly other manufacturers just use uncoated paper that will get soggy - maybe that's what happened here.

anyone else remember this post/have any info on it?

Ye'Hawww

I got that dang valve cover off.....you were right Just had to hold your mouth right.

Mine is a DuraLite filter.....not sure about the 6637 number you guys are talking about.

I will bet you $10 to a dough nut hole Duralite will tell you that you are not using their filter in the correct application, which means you are on your own.

I ordered a K&N filter to replace the Duralite, I think that it will not collapse I will look at it real hard before I install it....for sure

I will run a compression test today and pray that I have not killed my engine...I am on SS and poor as a church mouse and everything I am doing now is on a C Card.

A friend of mine son works on powerstroke at the ford place and he is going to let me use his compression gauge. The son told me that it is not a good sign that it is hard to start after the truck has been running and warmed up.
I feel like I am going to puke. I am on my way to get the compression gauge.

later

The paper won't hurt the turbo.
What I was saying it the the dust/dirt the got sucked in though the damaged filter is what damaged the wheel.
