Turbo wheel failure
This is my first post here. So don't be to hard on me...
I have a 1995 F250 Ford PSD with some mods that I put on this truck a few years ago. One was a 4 inch intake pipe with a DuraLite filter ECB 085011.
Well now the problem is the truck kept getting harder to start. It would spin over for maybe 5 to 10 seconds before it would start up. So I thought I would replace my Glow plugs....190K miles. Even though it was hard to start even when it had been running for an hour or so....still did not want to start
When I remove the air filter I saw a bad sight..the turbo wheel was in very bad shape 30% of the wheels blades were gone/ broken off.
I got to looking and I saw that the air filter had failed and a lot of the filter material had been sucked into the turbo causing the blades to break off.
I am pulling all the glow plugs out now and will run a compression test next week
Once the truck is running it still ran fine and would produce boost. I had not pushed the truck hard lately so I am not sure how much boost it would make the way it is now. I did see about 15 psi of boost the last time I remember looking at the boost gage
Oh well, I'll just have to see if I have killed the engine when I run the compression test this coming week
Wish me luck

It is unfortunate when we buy products that we think will help our trucks and they end up doing damage. Hopefully your motor is not beyond hope and can be brought back up to 100%. I had a k&n on my truck when I bought it and they are also not good for our engines. I ditched that and put in the 6637 and haven't looked back
There are many here with more knowledge than I and I'm sure they will chime in. We are a pretty friendly bunch around here, so don't be afraid to ask questions!
I was a complete noob a couple of months ago when I first got my truck. Who am I kidding I still am but this is a good bunch to hang around with if you want to learn the ins and outs of these trucks.
Once again welcome to FTE!

The problem is they dont "trap" all the stuff like they should. Its almost a case where a dirty K+N filter is better than a clean one. The problem becomes that the turbo blades will get a sandblasted/dusted look to them after a while.
If you hold your K+N up to a light you will see light coming trough at the top of the pleats. Not a good thing!

there was another one too I'm going to try and find that shows the capacity of the 6637. I'll see if I can find it.
well thomas beat me to it.
Here was the one I was thinking of. Second post from the bottom is what impressed me the most. Although the post at the very top is impressive as well.
I guess I'm slightly impatient and don't like to wait...

I have THE STOCK intake with a K&N filter in it! IS that ok? I know the filter has to have the oil sprayed on it to be effective. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

That post you put up is the same filter I was using that killed my turbo....
My filter was less than a year old an less 3,000 miles. I put it in last Sept.
The turbo sucked the inside filter paper inside out and into the turbo, and destroying the turbo.
I have spent the last 3 hrs trying to get the valve cover off the passenger side. I have had all the bolts out for 2 hrs and still can get it off.....the dang heater box will not let it clear the rockers
It is just not my day....
Joey: Well that just bites. I wonder if those filters come with a warranty of any kind, cause this would clearly fall under defective materials and workmanship. It should not have happened. I guess its not your day...

Can you post pics at all of it? I'd like to see what happend. You wont be able to post them directly to the site but you can upload them to photobucket or flikr or any photo sharing site and link them back here.
I have never seen an air filter fail like that one...the next air filter I put on there will have some type a screen on the inside of the filter to stop this from happening again.
You either got a defective filter or it got so plugged up that it sucked its self in.
It wasn't the filter paper that destroyed the compressor wheel.
It was dust and and whatever else that got sucked in.
Unfortunately I think you will be depressed when you do the compression test.
