I bought a 1996 gas F250 with the 460 a couple weeks ago. It is a CA truck so it has the OBD2 and the MAF sensor. From what i know and see the truck seems to be stock with the exception of some 33" tires by BF Goodrich. When i got the truck i killed the rear tank of gas getting around 3 MPG's. Keep in mind the truck barely went over 2000 rpm and when driving the RPM's dropped to about 1300 so i'm not driving it hard. The truck also hesitated a couple of times turning on the Check engine light. I changed the MAF sensor because it was nasty and had a crack, the spark plugs and wires, the distributer cap, the rotor, air filter, and fuel filter. That got my MPG's up to a little under 4.5 MPG. Being the ******* that i am i unplugged the battery to reset the check engine light before having it read and thinking that my changes would fix my fuel issues. The truck still hesitates from time to time but no check engine light. I know i didn't buy a Honda but after researching on this forum and others the truck should get 8-10 MPG's in the City with no load. Any one have any suggestions on what to do next or what would help get the MPG's up?
There's probably more issues because it's still hesitating, but a good place to start for calculating fuel mileage would be to re-calibrate the speedo for your larger tire size. Depending on what size tires your truck came with from the factory, it could be off by quite a bit, which would skew your MPG calculations.
It's fairly easy, once you know the figure you need, to recalibrate the speedo:
Thanks Bob i will check that as soon as i can. If it is off it isn't by much as most of my driving so far has been between my house and my parents. You can almost watch the guage drop as you drive. Do you know if the codes that caused the engine light to come on prior to me resetting it would be saved in the system or i have to wait till the engine light comes on again?

Completely forgot about the codes, and I had a really intelligent statement made up too!
I'm guessing that the speedo isn't off by much, so your MPG calcs should be fairly accurate.
There may still be codes stored, so it wouldn't hurt to read them (or have them read).
