'02 Excursion Help with OBD codes
Good Morning,
I have a 2002 Excursion and the only mod is an "Edge Juice w/ Attitude".
It is usually left on the stock setting and never above level 2, for what its worth.
I have had no trouble with the truck until recently I started having the throttle "go out" on me. It would give me the dead pedal. I assumed it was something with the TPS and sure enough got code:
P0221 Throttle/Petal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Range/Performance Problem
It looks like I have the older assembly where I need to replace the whole pedal module not just the sensor. Hopefully that should clear up any problems.
While running the codes I also go these:
P0670:Glow Plug Module Control Circuit
P0683:Glow Plug Control Module to PCM Communication Circuit
P1211: ICP pressure to low/high
Like I said the truck runs, starts and drives great. (besides recent throttle issue) Do I need to do anything to fix whats tripping these to prevent any issues down the road? Does the Edge chip set any of these off?

Can you watch the ICP while you are driving? I keep a watch on my ICP from curising to jumping on the skinny pedel. It'll cruise around 1400PSI and then go up to 2500 under HARD running. I also watch the IPR which ranges from 10% to 37% under hard running.
That might help you see if your IPR is having issues and either sending to much or not enought pressure to the injectors.
Also check your ICP by pulling the plug and look for OIL in the plug. That is a sign of ICP failing and needs to be replaced. You can pick one up from RiffRaff or Bob and change it out. Just clean the plug with electric cleaner and use electric grease when you put it back together.

Just climp up on the truck and look at the Sliver box on the passenger head, just behind the fuel bowl. Two large plugs are there and will allow you to check the wiring for damage.
Worst case, RiffRaff has the moduls so you can replace that too.
Can you clear your codes and see if they come back and how fast or under what conditions?

P1211 is high or low ICP which is Injector Control Pressure. This is the oil pressure created by your HPOP. Low could indicate a weak pump, a leak, a weak IPR (Injector Pressure Regulator), and anything else that could lead to low system pressure. On the flip side it could be high pressure, which I think is almost always a sticky IPR.
I dont think the ICP sensor is bad, generally when they go out you get a P1280 code and a "rougher" idle. You can verify that your sensor is still functioning by unplugging it while idling. A change in idle when you unplug the sensor means the sensor was functioning, and the PCM has now defaulted to a preset value with the sensor unplugged.

Yes and yes. Any advanced gauge that plugs in via OBD II should be able to pull ICP pressure. You should also be able to use the HPOP rail fitting and a pressure gauge. Make sure to use an oil rated gauge, and one capable of reading upwards of 3000psi if you go that route.
P0670 and P0683 means there is a communication issue with the GPCM, which is a very complicated relay for your glow plugs. GPCMs came on Excursions and CA emissions SuperDutys.

As far as issues with the GPMC if I don't do anything sooner than later will it cause problems down the road. I live in So. California so I don"t have any cold days to start the truck or anything?
So I guess my main question is, if the truck is running good now and I don't do anything to fix these codes, will I be hurting the truck and causing more headaches down the road.

Ok cool, I just installed a tablet in my truck and was planning on getting the Torque app.
Where in socal are you? I can let you hook up my known good GPCM to verify that it is the issue before spending money on a new one if you want.
No you wont do any damage. The GPCM is used because under CA emissions they require more finely controlled glow plugs and they activate longer than the other trucks.
