CCV Filter and MOD
Questions for you.
What have you been using to clean the dog house filter and are you able to get the hosing apart? (looked for threads but cant seem to find them)
I know there has been a CCV MOD out there for some time. For those who have done the CCV MOD, is it worth it? would you do it again? do you get drops of oil on the ground where you park your truck? (really don't want a leaker in my garage floor).
Thanks for the replays, Brice
To explain the mod, there are gasses that build up in the crank case, whether it be cylinder blow by, vaporized oil, or moisture that is evaporated out of the oil, etc... The gasses will build up pressure, and if that pressure isn't allowed to vent, the pressure will be released through seals, mainly the turbo seal, causing leaks. Hence the need for a crank case vent (CCV).
Now, because these gasses aren't exactly healthy and don't exactly smell good and tend to condense back into liquid, Ford Engineers decided to route the pressure and gasses back through the engine to burn off and dilute with the exhaust. This is not an uncommon way to manage these gasses IMO. What happens over time is that those gasses will condense after the turbo (increased pressure and lower temp) and will wind up settling in the intercooler and soaking into the stock intercooler boots.
Personally I'd rather pull the intercooler once every 100k and clean it than deal with letting the gasses escape and drip on the driveway. I don't see why it's an issue, especially if you have good aftermarket IC boots.
