Question CCV Mod...

I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I have a question ref. CCV Mod...
What does it accomplish ? And what are the benefits ?
I've read about how it's done and different dump points but still am confused about the reasons...
Thanks and I'll just wait and see...

Instead of the oily crankcase vapor being sucked through your intake it is vented to the atmosphere. This keeps your intercooler from of oily gunk and also keeps this gunk from weeping out of your IC boots and making a nasty mess in your engine compartment.

well what you do is reroute your crankcase vent for the gases and oil substance to be dumped out into the atmosphere instead of going into your IC pipes and makin its way to ur turbo. the benefits are you wont ever have to worry about you IC pipes carrying oil into ur intercooler or your turbo which will make ur truck last longer. a cheap an easy mod to do and well worth it

EDIT: beat me to the punch

It stops all the blowby oil from going into the intake tract where it softens all the rubber boots which then pop off from boost pressure. Also, if you replace the stock plastic tube that the CCV dumps into with a straight 4" pipe, you get slightly better airflow. Our turbos need all the airflow they can get.

Thanks all....makes sense to me....
I notice you've nearly all done the HPX mod, how well do you like that ? And being a stock engine would it benefit me ?
Also, Texas Outlaw, with the ZOODAD mod how do you keep rain or water out ?
I'm also considering a cat delete and flow through muffler, any suggestions there ? Or do they make a stock cat delete pipe ?

I have a grill insert over my stock grill. It keeps big debris and water out. I have never had a problem with water in the engine compartment.

The HPX mod is to allow for more consistent supply of high pressure oil to the #8 fuel injector since the stock design of the high pressure oil galleries are deadheaded. Yes, a stock engine will benefit from it. I noticed the engine got quieter after I installed mine. Just be sure the fittings are screwed into the engine tight with threadlocker. There will be oil all over the valley if they come loose. Guess how I know.

My wife bought them for me for Christmas in '06. Not sure where she got them but I will ask.

Definitely follow the directions and torque the connections. Mine is mostly stock and I noticed a difference when I started it up. It is much smoother now, especially when it's warming up. I got the KCM stainless steel one from ITPDiesel.com. I think you can save a few bucks if you order it directly from KCM, but I got the in-tank mod too so just ordered them as a bundle. I recommend the stainless steel one, it will last forever. I don't care what you tell me, a hose will wear out far before metal will!

For those that have done the CCV mod, are you mostly venting to atmosphere or running it into the exhaust? I've heard of quite a few guys welding a nipple in the exhaust and hooking the CCV to it for scavenging effect.

I think someone figured it was better to vent to atmosphere. There is a thread @ venting into exhaust and creating a back pressure( probably gonna open a can of worms here )LOL. Mine runs down and out pretty much under the drivers seat. Love that smell!!!!!
