universal electric fuel pump

well i got a new truck to fix, its an 85 f-150 with a 300 straight 6 in it, guy sold it to me cheap because it wouldnt start, and i found out why, the fuel pump eccentric is worn down, so i used a mr. gasket 12s pump and an inline regulator, and woot it started! buuuuuuuuut my victory was short lived, goin down the road it starts sputtering starves for fuel and dies, i checked all my lines, rubber and steel for leaks and nothing, then come to find out alot of people have problems with the 12s pump delivering enough fuel, im thinking of running a summit pump that puts out 105 GPH, i just wanted to check with you guys and make sure that wont be too much, it has a return line and of course i will be running a regulator its a fairly cheap pump, and it comes with a regulator what do ya think?

I'm almost certain that's the same pump I ran for a few years on my Bronco. It's a Holley blue pump. Even says "Holley" on the pump and regulator. I never had problems with it except for it being very loud. Now, it sits idle and I only use it for priming if I run the tank dry; which is never.

I never felt ripped off, but if I knew half as much then as I know now about 'em, I'd have gone with a gerotor pump from Carter. That should be much quieter and less likely to cause any issues later on.
