electric fan conversion

I have a few trucks between 92-96 that I would like to put electric fans on. I do not want my father's on a switch like mine is because he is pretty forgetful . Is there a way to put some type of sensor in the thermostat housing to tell the relay when to turn it on? All trucks have the 351w

You can buy a thermostatic switch to run the fan. They can be bought at most autoparts stores. Advance and Autozone carry them on the shelf usually. I am sure Orielliy does also

Is an electric fan good for towing? I have been doing some research after I posted and it seems like people are shying away from them since they do not move enough air to keep the truck cool.

You need to make sure you have a properly sized electric fan with a good shroud. Some people say nothing is better than a mechanical fan with the factory fan shroud. If you can find a factory electric fan from a car with similar horsepower levels you should be o.k. For instance I just parted out a 93 Mark VIII and the fan from that would work because the size is larger enough and it came off an engine that was rated at just under 300 HP. I would not put an escort fan on there and expect it work

I bought a fan shroud from an F150 with the 300 I6 and placed a Jeep Grand Cherokee fan from a V8 in it. Looks factory and moves plenty of air. Bought the controller from OReilly.
