Hello ... I'm a mid-40's guy from Texas ... The first vehicle I ever owned (at age 14) was a 1974 Ford Explorer 3/4 ton Pickup with orange paint, white trim and a 3 speed on the column (I'm looking for one now as a project) ... My dad had a 1971 F100 with a 360 CID 8 cylinder and a Prairie Yellow paint job ... I lost my Dad last year and my Mom in 2008 ... I was going through the woods on a piece of land I inherited from my parents and got a big surprise ... There, in pretty bad shape, was my Dad's yellow Ford ... This has become my first vehicle restoration project, so I'm sure I will have lots of questions ... Thanks for taking me into your family!
TexasFord1971 Welcome to FTE & the Bumpside Forum.
I am 20 years further down the road than you, and have a suggestion. Rather than rebuilding the "pretty bad shape" dads truck, pull the engine and other good parts, find you another 74, rebuild the engine from dads truck and run it that way.
I had bought my dad's truck and was using it, one of my son's needed a vehicle for a spell and one night going back to college he did a 4 corner smash job with it. The bed was 100ft from the cab & chassis. All destroyed.
The engine is the power plant, it makes the rest of the truck go, & will make a good memory of your dad in your new ride.
welcome texas ford 71 whatever you decide to do considering the state of the truck bodywise if the body is not too bad you have a head start the reason why I brought my truck is coz the body and bed is pristine . the paint is faded that's all but you must expect that for a truck almost 44 years old no rust or dents anywhere best of luck to you sir
looks like you might have to cut a tree or 2 down just to get it out of there.
Get it pulled out and cleaned up and show us what you got to work with.
Welcome to FTE.
