should the coolant sensor and computer shut down the glow plugs once the engine is fully warmed up.
PCM has no knowledge of coolant sensor as it is not connected in any way. It uses the EOT sensor as a basis on engine temp, and a fes other sensors.

The glow plugs will cycle EVERY time the engine is started even if running it 400 miles, shutting off, then restarting
If so then your engine electronics has some issues ... after EOT achieves ~ 135 F. the glow plugs no longer activate on restart. The WTS light does come on for a split second as that is just a boot up process on the PCM ... light bulb verification.
I know its old but I am going to argue with brad....
My crew cab has a fancy lil LED for the GP's and I have TDE1 programming on it, if the truck is warm they WILL NOT turn on....supposedly its a function of the TDE1 program.
My naw4 cycles the darn things everytime with very very minimal change even when its hotter than a 2$ pistol. somebody give me a tde1 and. ill get back with my results.
i have a tde0 coming to try with my chip that is tde1 and wont do jack with my naw4...
I guess it depends on the PCM. Jim is correct on how things are supposed to function. I know mine works in the fashion he describes. Some do and some don't I guess.

Well, I certainly don't know it all. Maybe this is a good time to open up a discussion on year of OBS and if / if not the glow plugs cycle above a certain EOT? My 97, build date DEC 97 acts as described above. I would be interested in other users and their observations on this puzzling issue, why some do and don't.
No. while traveling down the road if I let off the throttle and the IVC closed the TC will stay locked until I dropped enough speed to drop out of OD. If I was in 3rd it would stay locked down to 25 MPH, it was super sweet for in town driving, I rarely had to touch the brakes. with the NAW4 code as soon as I let off the throttle the TC would unlock at any speed it was SUPER annoying. I think that is one of the reasons there are so many trans/converter failures in these trucks. I find it ironic that everyone I personally know that has a rebuilt trans has a '96 and older truck. TDE0/1 came out with the '97's.....
My 97 does what your describing Rod and come to think of it, the 96 doesn't. Yes, I like the way the 97 acts downshifting, it helps slow the camper down.
