Hello I have a 1993 Ford F-250 with a 7.3 non-turbo. I have replaced all 8 glow plugs with motorcraft ones. After my truck sits for a hour or so the glow plugs don't cycle and I think they should because it takes a while to start. If it sits over night or for a extended period of time they work like they should. Is there a temperature sensor I should look at? I know my temperature gauge isn't reading right should I try and change that sensor? What do you guys think? Thanks
It's does sound like an issue with the glow plug controller that is threaded into the cooling system not recognizing a cooldown.
Of the two temp senders, one goes to the gauge, and one to the warning light. They don't have any say in GP function.
I wish I could be more help troubleshooting, but I switched over to a manual push button GP control years back, as I got tired of the cycling after the initial start.
glow plugs turn off once the engine reaches around 110 degrees.
they will not start working again until the engine is under around that 110 degrees mark.
