04 F250 6.0 auto, 170K... Recently I have noticed a strange smell after shutting the truck down. Smells like oil to me, but I have no leaks or weep marks any where I can see. I just had the coolant flushed because it was unknown the last time it was. It has had a new oil cooler, turbo surfaced, injectors installed prior to me buying it. Any ideas? Thanks
Sometimes it takes oil a while to work it's way to the ground on these trucks. You could have an exhaust leak, internal turbo oil leak that's burning off, oil dripping on an exhaust manifold....multiple places. You might try looking for it in the dark with a strong flashlight to see if you can pinpoint any kind of smoke or fumes. It's a difficult question at best.
another thing might be the lack of a cabin air filter.. you will smell the engine when you shut er down, you better remember to turn fan off on dash air when going thru a car wash (or you might get wet), also you get to smell all the different fuel additives- if you change from time to time. I got given a case of Howe's, and I can smell the difference between it and the white bottle I usually use. plus, I put some TW-3 oil to see if it helps lubercate. now smell burning oil at stop lights!
