Please welcome me back. ive put over 240K since my last visit.
Now im in serious need of help. As always im looking for your input. Well here goes....
1997 F350 520K auto, DP Tuner stage 1 injectors. Rosewood built about 250K ago., efuel, (well maintained truck)
Well here goes. ISSUE: LOTS OF WHITE SMOKE out the tailpipe all the time and doesnt matter on the temperature or how warm the engine is. For about a month ive been getting a hint of a different smell out the tailpipe. But no smoke.
The only performance issue ill get is a slight sputter when i first take off. I cant tell for sure but this all started after i did an oil change.(may have overfilled a bit) Coolant looks clean and level is perfect. Not sure if its really related.
Im not getting any leaking oil from turbo into the valley...but i have standing oil in valley. Not really sure where its coming from. (new oem IPR 5k ago)
Please throw as much info at me as you can. ty
Wow, it has been a while! I'm glad the truck was running as good as it was.
Does it seem to be consuming oil?
If you smell the exhaust smoke, does it smell like unbirned fuel (and burn your nose) or does it seem like motor oil? It could be several things, but determining if it's oil or fuel will give us a place to start, anyhow.
Well thanks for the quick relies.
Truck is just my daily driver. shes an ol'lady so her towing days are over.
The smell is like the smell of" lighter fluid". The smell you smell when you get behind the big rigs.
For the most part the oil level is always rite where it supposed to be. never had a low reading.
leading up to this event i wasnt losing any oil.
No compresssion test performed
+2 on bad fuel another member had an issue and draining his tanks and filling with a know good fuel station solved his problems. Congrats on such a high mileage great running truck!
Turns out its not a "type of fuel" issue.
only because i dont use my rear tank because of a slow leak.
So i threw in 5 gallons into the rear tank at a different pump and was having the same issue.
After draining my water separator...i took a sample of fuel and it looks like this.
Not sure if those bubbles are oil of water or a mix?
Definitely water, and not enough that I think it would cause the issues you're seeing. It's normal for the water to separate in the fuel filter housing (thus the "Water in Fuel" sensor and the drain on the filter bowl). I think you have injector issues, The issues you're describing are consistent with those of a cracked fouled nozzle.

ok
would a buzz test inform me which one it is?
next question is can the truck be driven to my buddies garage?
thx
