Check the shift tube along the top of the steering column. If you reach under the dash to where the cable is attached the shift lever and the lever the cable is attached to should move together. The shift tube is pot metal supported in plastic bushings. I have changed at least a couple hundred of the shift tubes that were broken. Make sure the cable is freemoving in its housing too.
I think my cable is streched out. Is that possible? The
shift tube is not broken as I had to replace it a few years
ago. There seems to be a lot of play in the shifter and now it will not go into park at all. The shift tube was the first thing I checked. The only place I could see to adjust
the cable is on the transmission end. It looks like some
kind of plastic lock piece that will break if you try to
move it. Any info on that?
