It can make it not start...you need some compression for it to start as with any vehicle...but abruptly with no noise VERY UNLIKELY... You would've heard a difference
Also, last you had it... it still cranked right? but just wouldn't start?
No, I have no paperwork. I will say that we took the truck to Kenny 2 weeks ago and asked him to fix the fuel leak. He said the wrong washer had been used on a fuel line, and he replaced it. Charged us $180 and gave us the truck back. So we assumed he'd be a fine place to take it back to when it wouldn't start.
We put a new FICM in and drove the truck for 3 weeks, it drove fine. This guy just told me that they had to reprogram the PCM and the transmission computer, he didn't even mention the FICM. Transmission computer? I didn't even know there was a transmission computer.
Those computers don't just "lose" their programming. I smell DEEP caca here.
If I was vgrrl, I would hate you guys! lol I don't mean that in a rude way, just saying that I feel her pain. What options does she have? If she tows it to the next Diesel Shop, who's to say they won't do the same thing. She's really in a bind and all we can do is tell her how terrible the mechanic is. I mean, really, her only other option is to find a Ford Dealership that has a spot open and can get their truck fixed same day or at least diagnosed.
Man, when it rains it pours. I hope you come out of this with at least enough information that you find a set of gauges REALLY important. Monitoring the system while your husband drives would give you a heads up. And vice-versa. He could monitor while you are driving. Learning to troubleshoot with the SGII would be a SUPER DUPER bonus. Shops wouldn't be BS'ing you anymore.

Yup, and the Ford dealer already told them they are booked 3 weeks out. I still can not believe there isn't a diesel FTE member near there.
(note to self...do not drive to New Orleans with the Excursion)

Yeah I agree, I used to live in Orange, Texas and Houston, Texas. Worked all through the South down through Houma, NOLA and Slidell. That area is like the Diesel Capitol of the World...
How far are you from Baton Rouge? I did some checks and these guys keep coming up... Tell them you heard about them on FTE forums and thought you'd give them a try to see if they could help. You'll gladly report back to FTE as the ONLY Shop you would recommend in Louisiana.
We will definitely have the gauges..if the truck ever gets back on the road. Altho, actually, if that truck ever runs again we will probably drive it straight to a dealer and trade it in for a different truck!

I don't blame you. It will run again, just wondering... at what cost?
According to mapquest, Baton Rouge is roughly 80 miles ( 1 1/2 hours) from New Orleans...BUT...it is on the way to Lafayette which is where Vgrrrl needs to go for their next job.
