.30 bore good/bad ??

Bought a block, its been bored .20, but needs another .10 possibly. I should be over 500 HP once build is done. How weak is this going to make my block? Should I just stock build it and find another block or keep it at 500 n be nice?
Opinions please....

The only way to know for sure is to have the block sonic checked to see if there is enough material to go .030" over. Are you sure another .010" over is going to clean it up? Bring it to a machine shop that you can trust and let them help you decide.

Read in the diesel mag, where they filled the "lower" coolant cavity with liquid aluminum to help in this situation?

.30 would never work. .030 might, but I'd be inclined to sleeve it as mentioned above.

I do tend to take for granted that people mean what they scribe down in regard to measurements..

So yes... .030" bore...no problem
.30" is a completely different ballgame.
Thats 3/10 of an inch.
In my world.. it might as well be a mile... hence the immediate response of "sleeve it."
If you are out to .30 then either find another block... or sleeve it and build a nightmare machine.
By that i mean... you will run out of money before you run out of potential horsepower achievable.

I've read the coolant-side of the cylinders is often more of a problem for high HP builds. Stress risers from coolant cavitation-induced pitting can cause things to break. For this reason, some builders ALWAYS sleeve the cylinders.

Fwiw, I think 500HP is a good place to draw the line. As you approach 600HP, ya need to start considering block reinforcement like main studs, a girdle, cryo, etc. You can drop $20k into a full-build 7.3 EASY, $30k isn't hard - especially if you wanna make it look good (powder coat and polish, etc).

Good luck - let us know how it goes!!
