did a rant couple of years back about EGT gauges and thermocouples in this forum. the slower reacting ones are probably shielded, fast reacting are "bare". CURIE point is only an issue when you are trying to ACCURATELY read 350+/ 50 degrees. BTW the charts say the junction is accurate to 0 degrees F, but the millivolts are so low you need amplification to measure. 1 to 2 % accuracy is a result of manufacturing processes for the gauge unit....
Interesting info. sorry that I missed that thread. So are you saying the metal probe itself may be shielded on the Banks unit and that might be why it's slow reacting? When I got off work yesterday I turned the key to the wait to start position and my overhead console said 111 degrees while my EGT gauge read 50 degrees. Clearly that gauge isn't very accurate at the lower temps. Once I started the engine and drove a few blocks the EGTs readings were over 400 which seemed more normal to me compared to my other trucks.
For comparison's sake...when I got in my F250 pickup this morning (ISSPRO gauges) and turned the key to the Wait To Start position the EGT gauge read about 80 degrees, which is very close to ambient. So, I presume ISSPRO is far more accurate, at least at the lower end of the range.
