Turbo cool down ?

sorry for the newbie question but would like to know...

Does a person need to let the new 6.7 turbo idle to cool down before shutting down ??

I know some vehicles will continue to run after you shut down and walk away to cool the turbo(s) but not sure if the new truck will do this or if I need to let it idle for awhile or what to do.....

I have always heard and done that after towing and hard driving to let it cool down for a few minutes but even then if you are towing and say get off the hwy and if you are towing through a town at a realitively normal speed, the turbo will cool down by the time you, lets say, get to the gas station.

Could be wrong, but that is what I have done and had no problems

Here is what I do. I don't tow all that heavy so it's not a big deal for me.

when I exit the interstate, my oil temp is usually 212. When I get to the hotel or whatever I watch the oil temp and when it gets below 200 I feel like I can shut it off. 190 seems to be the operating temp at idle. I'm not really sure what it's supposed to be.

If you read the diesel engine manual (not owners) that came with the truck it talked about turbo cool down. It says to let it run a couple minutes after heavy towing. Can't remember exactly the time but remember seeing it.

Page 10 of the diesel supplement says:

"To prolong engine life (especially after extended high speed, high
ambient temperature, or high GVW/GCW operation), it is recommended
that a hot engine be idled for 3-5 minutes which will allow the
turbocharged engine to cool down."

I used a turbo shutdown timer on my GMC all the time. Haven't found anyone yet offering a timer for the new vehicles. BD performance is one of the main brands.
