Check for corrosion at the battery terminal and starter solenoid. If there's too much resistance, not enough voltage will get to the solenoid and it will become toast in short order.
Also check all the ground straps. When I say all I do mean all.
The check the battery cables. Both sides. You may want to try a
voltage drop test on the cables. It's not too hard to do I have a
good Youtube link for you here.
The solenoid on my 92 Ranger went out so I knew what to look for. When testing a known good solenoid, it wouldn't pass the current through to the starter. The mounting bolts were heavily rusted along with the body mount nuts. Got replacement body bolts, cleaned up the body threads, put her back together, and tested. Current went through.
You know. After having several different grounding issues, you'd think I would get this by now.
