I recently purchased a 73 f250 the bed on the inside is solid but has surface rust and deep in places no holes.
What is the best way to stop this rust and recondition the bed. I will be using it for light hauling like ATV's and boat gear. Nothing real serious but want to save the bed stop the rust and make it look better?
What have you guys done and used?
Thanks
Tim

wire wheel on grinder, keep working it,take bed off truck,do top and bottom,or take it to get sand blasted, better yet. After prep work Por 15,and then top coat,,,,if your panels are rotted then yes cut it out and mig
If its not rusted through, it just needs cleaned, primed and sealed. On mine, I used a cup wire wheel in an angle grinder. It took quite a few hours but I got it clean. I used a small chisel and pick for corners. Then coat with rust stop primer. Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, Rust Bullet or red Rustoleum. If you use the Rustoleum, it is slow curing. If you use a topcoat or bedliner with hot solvent the Rustoleum needs time (weeks) to cure or it may lift. Before topcoat, re-seal seams. Polyurethane caulk (home improvement store) works well and sets up reasonably fast.
For the topcoat, good paint works or bedliner. I used the SEM spray in type and am pleased with it.
