just get a D-8K and as you are driving to the stump, drop a corner of the blade down into it. then as you hit the stump, blade up. it will pop that sucker rite out.
i have done this hundreds of times with 4 foot diameter oaks, both stumps and full trees.
that 105,000 lb dozer pops them rite out first time, every time.

Always wanted to run a big a$$ dozer like that... I'm sure it would be fun for a couple hrs before it seemed like work.
Another trick is to saw the stump from the top down in an X shape.
From where the tree was felled down to the roots or ground. Than just pull a 1/4
of the stump at a time. Once ya get the first 1/4 out the rest is easy.
Actually, one thing I didn't mention is that I tried to burn the stumped earlier in the summer. I took my chainsaw, and cut 4 slits into the stump, creating 8 evenly-shaped wedges. My sons friends all came over for a big bonfire. The stump must've still been wet, because it didn't burn much of it - even though I cut the tree down 6 months before the bonfire. They had a roaring bonfire for 3-4 hours too.
Sounds like a pine lighternot stump we have in the yard courtesy of hurricane Charlie and prevous home owner just cut it 4" from ground. Tried burning it out several times....no luck. Going to attack it with a air chisel when it cools down just to get rid of it from munging up mower blades!
Dig around roots and cut them off long. Wrap chains around roots. Dig small whole and place a 2 ft +- 4x4 leaning toward tree.Chains go over 4x4 and connect to hitch. Now when you pull it will stand up the 4x4 and lift the stump.

stumps don't burn good. Nitrogen fertilizer pored on it and in it will speed up rotting a lot.
I had a big stump in my front yard. I dug a small hole on one side and got a good fire going. After the coils where good , I placed a fan blowing the coils toward the stump. It burnt the roots that where going in the ground. We use a big fan where we are clearing land. It works. Just my .02
Fertilizer, Diesel and a blasting cap works.
That's a good tip CTD. I would also put some weight
in the back of the truck as it may try and lift it. Than
there goes your traction.
My Old Man always said "Son, Hit Er Hard and She'll Come Easy".
He said that a lot. And about everything.
check with your local tree services first.many times i have ground out stumps cheaper than home owners could have rented the grinder.
location and if you can wait for a tree co. so they can fit you in on a tree stump route,it can be surprisingly affordable.
All TRYING to pull it out is going to do is damage your truck. I had a $1800 bill when I TRIED pulling a stump.
Put the truck in 1st gear, got the chain tight and goosed the throttle. Stump didnt move, broke a piece off . The PIECE and 3/8 chain came flying back at the truck, whipping the COMPLETE drivers side leaving a chain imprint the whole way. I though it was coming thru the back window. Scared the CRAP out of me
If you have access to a deuce and a half 6x6 that will make it relatively quick work of the tree just keep it in 6L for pulling power...
Other then that head the safety advice and make sure no one is around and use two chains and maybe tyres as rubber bands to help like rubber bands when pulling
Dynamite. Drive a pipe in the ground directed towards the center of the stump. pull the pipe out, drop a couple sticks in and light 'er off. Keep your distance, don't inhale the smoke or you'll have one heck of a headache. You only get one chance at it this way so use plenty of explosive. :-)
