Scott, yes, I made it home safely, left Manteca at 6am after filling up the tank and got home by 7:42am. Plenty of time to change clothes clean up and head to church. That red one is a 460 with EFI, and a 4 speed overdrive transmission. It is also a conversion from Centurion, the same people who made the 4 door Bronco conversion. And I had to drive by the street of the person who owned the yellow tow truck to get there. LOL. Anyway, I did a search on Craigslist for Ford F350, and this one was the second one in the list. I called the guy and got directions, then went up to look at it. I found out the guy's wife died yesterday morning at 4am, and he had only put the truck up for sale today to help with expenses. I looked the truck over, and listened to him tell me what was wrong with it, and what worked correctly. He said he had not driven it much in this past year, only putting 250 miles on it. So we took it for a test drive (with me driving) and I was immediately impressed with how much pickup it had compared to my Bronco. And, it rode about 10 times smoother than my Bronco.
The bad things about it are the gas gauge does not work for the front tank but it does for the rear one. So what he does is fill up both tanks, then run it from the front tank until it starts to sputter, then he switches to the rear tank. He said the AC blows warm air, and he thinks all it will need to work correctly is a recharge of the system. He did not know if the cruise control works because he never used it. And that is it. Compared to that laundry list of problems that tow truck in Hayward had, this is a piece of cake. I found some more bad things about it, but none are major issues. The electric door locks don't work on 3 of the 4 doors. Only the passenger side door will lock. That I will get fixed ASAP as I don't want to keep leaving the truck unlocked. The driver side power window motor works, but needs help getting the window back up. So, I will go to Pep Boys, buy the motor and have the alarm shop that did the Bronco motors put it in, along with a Viper alarm, and a cheap stereo system.
I noticed it pulls slightly to the right when driving, so an alignment is in order as well. He just replaced the brake pads in the front, so they are good to go. I will buy an Optima battery for it as he told me the one in it is 5 years old. Anyway, I liked it so much I paid the guy $3,500 in cash. Then I called AAA and had them come out and tow the Bronco home so I could drive the Dually home. While waiting for the tow truck to arrive, he offered me some cold water, and sat and talked. That is how I found out his wife had died (he had a bunch of relatives over at the time) and he needed the money. He really did not want to sell the truck. I also found that I am the 3rd owner of it. He bought it from a lady who raised horses.
The truck looks much better in the photos then it does up close and personal. The paint is very faded from sitting in the sun for years, and the paint on the hood is peeling. I will eventually take it to a paint shop and ask them how much they would charge to repaint the burgundy color, but leave the silver striping. The window tint on the rear side windows is very bubbled, and I will get an estimate to have that replaced and redone, maybe even the rear sliding window. It is very hard to see through that back tinted window, especially when he added the rear camper top with its filthy rear window. He had it off the truck and asked me if I wanted it. I said sure, and he had his two sons help him install it. The interior is flawless, and VERY comfortable. I feel like I am sitting in a recliner. Some of the material is a little faded, but there are no rips, or tears, and no stains. The wood console, and overhead console, and the wood on the doors is very faded, but intact. Once when trying to get in, my hand slipped off the wood center console and I hit my forearm on it and got a big knot on the side. When I reacted by pulling myself up again, I hit my head on the wooden overhead console LOL.
On the drive home I found out the cruise control does work, and it has pretty good pickup for such a heavy truck. And again, I was impressed with how smooth it was. I checked all the lights and they all worked with the exception of the two side marker lights on the driver's side rear wheel tub. So I will buy bulbs for that. maybe get LED's for all the running lights. It even has small lights in the running boards on both sides, and they all work. I did not test the lights on the brush guard. So I don't know if they work or not. It has a CB radio in the overhead console, and a phone on the floor (a very old one!) It even has a TV in the back of the center console, but, it is so old, it would need a converter box to get any channels today. I may replace it with a DVD player so if I ever go camping, and sleep in it, I can have something to watch. Of course my laptop could do the same thing and has a bigger screen.
I filled up both tanks while in Madera because the gauge was reading 25% and I did not want to take a chance of running out of gas. $125 dollars later both tanks were full. (Yikes!). The bottom line is, I like this truck. I am not a big fan of the brick nose front end, or of it having a 460 instead of a IDI diesel. However, I like the fact that it is a Centurion conversion, and the interior is in such good shape, and the smooth ride. I will need to get used to driving it though, and make sure the rear wheels don't run over anything. LOL. I want to buy a trailer for it, and start the car flipping business, but I think I will spend this week getting it registered, smogged, and the AC fixed. Then work on the other issues with it. I will try and do some of the work myself to save money. By the time the Sept 21st GTG rolls around the truck should be in better shape. And washed! It is filthy. LOL I did not have time to take any pics today, but I will make sure to take some tomorrow. Better stop here or this post will turn into a book. LOL edit: Forgot to mention, I love that big chrome rear bumper too. Although, I will scrape off the Vietnam Veteran sticker as I am not a Vietnam Vet.

Will have pics up in a few minutes, washed the truck this morning, but got tired halfway through (it is a big truck! LOL) So I took it to a hand car wash and they washed it, and put armor all on the tires and interior. Looks great. Even paid them extra to clean out the truck bed. Bought a red top Optima battery at Pep Boys, but they said it would be a 2 hour wait to install. Also bought a driver side power window motor. Then I took it to my favorite repair shop, and he is going to smog it, and check the AC system, and install the battery. I want to get more pics of it since it is all nice and clean now. But it is at the shop and I am home eating lunch.
Tomorrow I'll take it in to get a Viper alarm installed, and a new stereo and speakers. Half the stuff this truck came with, I am not going to use. The dinosaur TV, and phone especially. And I will not be driving fast enough to need to use the radar detector. I guess I could use the CB though.
