Ok so I just gave up on the mad dog headers cuz for them to be listed as fitting a highboy then I call to order a set and the guy tells me they wont, I think that's kinda bogus. I went in circles getting no where with the owner and he says he doesn't know why they don't fit other then the steering is in the way on the driver side.... So if he is making these from home why doesn't he just make them so they FIT what he SAYS THEY WILL FIT online Its so frustrating working with people who play dumb when they make the frigin product.. and at a wopping $515 for non coated headers is kinda steep and it would cost another 275 to have them coated.. So im looking at a set of headman coated headers for $410. Moving on. Can someone please send me some pics of how they routed their exhaust around the transfer case? I have dual exits in front of both the rear tires and when I redo my exhaust id like to do a cleaner job then the PO did... Also, someone said that whichever way I rout my exhaust pipes that I need to make sure they are the same length o.O is that true? That makes no sense to me. I can see the headers on both sides of the block needing to be the same length but I don't get the exhaust off the headers needing to be that way.
Are fenderwell exit headers an option for you? Originally my truck had headers with some pretty extreme bends with smaller diameter pipe to snake around the transfer case. After puzzling how to do better, I took the fenderwell exit approach. Sure made running exhaust pipes easy for dumping in front of the tires.
So officially no fenderwell exit will work without costing me a grand after ceramic coating them so I have a set of headman headers... Now how the heck can I rout this because I want true duals, with my electric cut outs, that exit infront of the two rear tires... I have super 40's with the center/center inlet outlets. The transfer case and front drive shaft are both in the way for what I originally had planned to do...
I should be getting my 1979 F-350 4X4 SC back from the muffler/exhaust shop tomorrow. My truck got a 460 before the common conversion kits came out, so it is a one-off build. I just brought it home from California two weeks ago and want it to breathe better with true dual exhaust. I ordered Headman Headers and the driver's side fit perfectly. Passenger side required modifying the headers and voiding the warranty on the headers. Then we ran into an issue with the starter, so I ordered one out of Michigan and it fit perfectly, but would not spin. So, I contacted Summit and have another mini hi-torque starter on the way and have my fingers crossed to make it work. I had the shop add the x-pipe, dual 40 series Flowmasters, and chrome tips to exit out from just below the rear bumper. Lots of man hours and effort to make it all work. I suspect I will be happy if I spend under $2K when it is done.
I have a new Weind In-take Manifold to be installed once we get the truck back.
