Was going to put a 390 in, but oil pan issues after CV cross member suspension install. The two other options I have are 5.0 mustang engine, or 4.6 Crown vic engine. I have heard that only about 5 wires used on either were needed to run each as efi engines. Where is a place where I can find this type info on the rewiring issue. I could always put a standard style intake, 4bbl, and distrib on 5.0 if had to. Have automatic from crown vic, or 5 speed from mustang for tranny, already know the auto be a wiring headache to get the lockouts working right .
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Hey '64, I recently put a '92 Mustang 5.0/AOD in my '66. I love it. I got the whole set up from the same car but gave up on converting the wiring harness. I got an aftermarket harness thru Summit Racing. It's the same basic harness offered by Ford Racing (even use the same instruction manual) but it's about $80.00 cheaper. This harness keeps the EGR in tact but eliminates the other smog crap.
The 4.6 would probably be a good choice too, especially if you already have the computer, etc. Ford Racing may offer a harness for that, too. If you wanna go with the auto trans, there are companies that make a harness for that, too.
Thanks 37 Ford Guy, that gave me a good start, plus found some things "Hotrod" has played with in an issue. But have now been offered an 5.4 with tranny...lol Will go today to see what valve type the heads are.The harness isn't too bad at about 900 clams for 4.6, or 5.4, but still more inspiration required before the perspiration, and shelling out the cash. I think the driveability of the truck will be well worth the cost and labor involved.

Wow, those are some fun options! One good thing about the 4.6 & possibly 5.4 is that you already have the motor mounts built into your CV front end....
Keep us posted on what you decide and post up some pics. We like pics!
Ok, going with a 98 4.6 with auto tranny if I can figure out how to get it to the speedometer. Any ideas? lol
I'm new to the late model swaps, but looking forward to it. Found stand alone wiring set $848.00, still thinkin Victor Jr intake, with MSD 6 controller...
Found a rear sump oil pan, and pickup screen for the 390, so headed back to my big block in the truck which I wanted. But new prob is just bought a 47 ford panel truck.....putting 64 on back burner for the 47....
