4.6 5.4 wireing harness

Are the 4.6L engine wiring harness interchangeable with the 5.4L engine? I need the whole engine wiring harness. I found one but it has the 4.6L engine.

Thanks Chris

No, Depending on the year, the ignition systems are different. Parts might be interchangeable but the entire harness will most likely not, they even vary from year to year with the same engine.

hmm, having trouble finding that information for sure but it looks like the engine harness is the same for the 5.4L Expy from 99-02. Do you have a harness to look at? If so does it have a part number tag on it (should be near the bulkhead connectors)? Why are you replacing the harness (is it damaged)? Might be easier to repair if the damage isn't too severe.

Edit: Does this look like the harness you need? http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-00-01-02-...xYYYQB&vxp=mtr

This kind of information is difficult to find so the dealer information is probably your best bet. The info I have says the XL3Z prefix is for an F150/F250. The F150/F250LD shared alot with the Expedition but I don't know if the engine harnesses are the same or not. The 12A581 is the main Engine Harness PN. My information states that the 99 Expedition prefix is XL1Z but my search for XL1Z-12A581 has been fruitless.

yea, unfortunately they discontinue manufacturing parts after about 10 years. It's really difficult to find Genuine Ford parts for my 94 Mustang for reasonable prices.

Do you have a harness and it is damaged or do you not have a harness at all?

the transmission harness is a separate harness, pn 15525 (the rest of the PN depends on the transmission you have and if it is 4x4 or 4x2).

What all does the harness in question plug into?

15525 appears to plug into 12A581 under the starter relay on the firewall, and connects to these devices:
-Transmission range sensor
-Output speed sensor
-Transmission solenoids
-downstream O2 sensors (behind catalytic converters)
-vehicle speed sensor
-transfer case (if equipped)
