Take a look at the Tech Folder on doing a flush also. I'd suggest a coolant filter if you don't already have one. and try to drain/flush via the block drains if you can, a number of folks say the sand seems to "hide" there...
Interestingly mine was flushed maybe 500 miles ago and I had a slight leak on the coolant filter I installed just recently (my fault with not a tight wrap on the teflon tape on one fitting). I ended up draining a couple of gals out of my driver's side block drain, 1st to install the filter and again to fix my little leak. I had almost put all the fluid back in the second time and I look at the bottom of the container and guess what?! Casting sand... Not a lot, but enough to make me happy I just put on the filter...
