Hello all! I'm hoping someone can tell me what the heck this code means and what does it apply to. I've searched the forums and Internet and all I can find is "Exhaust Valve Solenoid Control-High". I called a local garage and was told it referred to my engine's variable valve time solenoid for the exhaust camshaft.
Naturally I scoffed at that because there is no VVT on my 2003 V10. All I can guess it it refers to the EGR controls?
I cleared the code but it returns and I'm due for a smog check in Kalifornia next month. Can anyone tell me what an exhaust valve solenoid is and where is it found? Incidentally my fuel economy has fallen through the floor to 7.5 mpg from 13/14.
EGR Exhaust solenoid control valve is behind the engine on the fire wall . Did you check the tiny vacuum hoses (at least two hoses ) and an electrical plug for tightness ?
While there , you may want to check all vacuum hoses in the engine compartment, including PCV hoses .

Good luck,"
Wolf, thanks for your input.
Essentially there is nothing at all on my firewall except the brake vacuum booster. I have checked that area several times and other than pass-throughs for hoses and accelerator cables the firewall is clean.
Anything on the throttle body that even looks remotely like a suspect appears in working order. The more I research this the more I find it refers to variable cams or variable valves timing which no V10 has.
Even combing thru Ford's online parts reveals nothing. It shows an EGR valve attached to the throttle body and a large exhaust gas tube rising up to it from the exhaust manifold on the driver's side. However, I have no such thing on my truck! I am completely stumped.
A mechanic shop said he can fix it but they can't tell me what is P0080 refers to and what it is. Until they do tell me, they are not touching my truck.
Additionally, all searchs for EGR valves and DPFE valves show nothing like anything I have on my engine. Even though Motorcraft Parts charts show my DPFE is a DPFE15 unit which is not to be found anywhere on my truck.
In fact, I have no attaching tubes to my exhaust manifold anywhere except way down below where there is a nipple with an O2 sensor in it. That's it!!
I do have the vapor purge valve and associated hoses connect to the intake spacer as well as the air by-pass valve for the air idle control valve.
So now the question comes back to square one. What component does OBD2 Trouble code P0080 -- Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid (bank 1) - high signal refer to? *SIGH*
Bringing this one back, I have the P0080 code: what the heck it it?
That code is not defined for your vehicle (2003 Exc w/V10) because your vehicle is incapable of generating that code validly (no VVT).
I do not know of ANY North American Ford that can generate that DTC. Those later Ford models with VVT use a different DTC for a fault that corresponds to the Google-produced verbiage.
You likely have a code reading error, probably caused by some sort of tuner or code reader that's reading gibberish.
Bringing this one back, I have the P0080 code: what the heck it it?
I also got P0309 code, which I will replace the COP on cylinder #9. Do these have anything to do with each other?
The P0080 code, according to a list of trouble codes in FoMoCo's service manual is not applicable to the truck. Why it showed up is a mystery. My code reader isn't a cheapy but showed it anyway. It cleared and hasn't come back since I replaced the fuel level sending unit that was causing another code.
