Let me clarify my question today as I was nurturing my 1990s 300Cid EFI alittle closer to good health. Plugs & Wires tomorrow comes the ACCEL high voltage electronic super coil. but anyway to my question. Ok after replacing plugs and wires. I went to reinstall the air intake tubes and noticed what sounds like Exhaust eminating from the throttle body. so my question after all that is this. IF the computers giving me a Code 31 during the Continuous Memory test which translates over to EGR Valve control sensor fault. is it hypothetically possible that Exhaust is being rerouted and fed right into the intake and causing the engines drivability problems???
I had 3 codes telling me that the EGR wasn't working, so I started with the EVP sensor. That didn't work so I replaced the EGR valve body, that was it. I unpluged the battery for a good 30 minutes, plugged it back in and ive been code free for months. Good luck with yours
The EGR valve should be closed at idle so you have a problem and yes exhaust gasses being passed when they shouldn't be will cause hesitation and drivability issues. Start by simply removing the vacuum line on the EGR valve while the engine is running, if there is vacuum present on the hose you have a bad EGR Vacuum Regulator(EVR) or a potential short in the control wires that is holding the EVR open. If there is no vacuum in the line but the valve still passes exhaust then it is stuck or faulty so replace it.
BUSTED!!!!!! You hit the nail on the head!!! The EVR as you refered to it is sucking vacuum at idle and throughout the RPM range. A question that came up while researching the cost of that particular part Oreilly's does not have a quote on quote *EVR* but they do have this little item List: EGR Vacuum Solenoid - 1990 Ford F-150 | O'Reilly Auto Parts Is this what I want/need for the "Old Guy/Old Man" ????
