tailgate question

what is the length of the slot on the latch that the outer rodend sits in? also, does it just float in there or is there a clip like at the handle?

End of rod just floats, no clip. Not sure on size of slot without going to barn to check. I would guess 3/8 to 1/2 inch.

hmmmmm, mine is .930" how much slop is too much slop?

I've got a couple of new latches around here somewhere.
I'll see if I can dig them up tomorrow and get a measurement for you.

You're fine rockittsled. I opened up one of the new latches I have and measured the slot. I didn't have my calipers handy but with a steel rule the slot measures a little under 1".

. I've been "collecting" this stuff for nearly 20 years and now I'm finally starting to use the parts.
A lot of the boxes are pretty much falling apart from age

. The sheetmetal (fenders, doors) lived through three hurricanes, one which tore the roof off the storage building pretty much trashing the packaging they came in, but the parts came through with flying colors
