Last month I bought a 1997 E350 box truck. It has the 5.4 Triton and the 4-speed auto (E4OD or 4R100?). The gear selector feels loose- instead of a spot for a gear, I engage it and can freely move the selector all o er the place. The worse part is that I cannot really engage Park. Sometimes it,s in all the way, and sometimes the van will just roll, as if it,s in Neutral. When I had the rear brakes worked on, the shop said that a linkage clip was loose, and they snapped it back in. All has worked for the last couple of weeks, but today it started this again. I am wondering:
1. What clip are they talking about?
2. Where is this clip, and how do I fix this?
3. Can I do something so this Doesn't keep happening?
4. There seems to be a rubber drain plug underneath my transmission, near the bell housing. I knocked it off by accident, but the compartment is dry. The truck drives normally. Is something wrong?

No idea. I know how to fix the loose shift linkage, but I don't know what this clip is.

There are two Torx head screws at the bottom of the steering column that hold the shift tube to the column. They need to be tightened. Lay on the floor under the steering column looking up the column.

No there isn't. That's not a drain plug, it is a dust cover for access into the bellhousing.
